Week 12: Part 8

In part 8, I've learnt basic squash settings and more detailed adjustments to the graphs in graph editor.

For translate Y, select the 'scale' tool to move the graph.

Like Translate X, delete the center keyframe for Rotate Z.

Put in -360 in the Stats box to allow the ball to rotate 360degrees forward while bouncing.

At the end of the video, it teaches us how to squash the ball by creating deformers>nonlinear>squash.

Reflection:
I think the tutorial has start to become more interesting as I've always wanted to learn the squash effect as it is one of the principle of animation.

Week 12: Part 7

In part 7, I have successfully learnt how to animate a basic bouncing ball.

In this part, I need to select Translate Y in the graph editor and modify the graph by holding down the middle mouse wheel.

The ball needs to move in constant velocity. So i delete the middle keyframe for Translate X.

By freeing tangents, I am able to stretch the lines on the graph to give it a nice and smooth graph.

Reflection:
This video helps me a lot. It teaches me the usage of graph editor. Next time, I don't have to animate them in different view panels one by one; i can use this graph editor to determine how my ball wants to move.

Week 12: Part 6

In part 6, I've learn how to start animating the ball moving up and down with the keyframes.


Lock all except Translate X, Translate Y and Rotate Z.

Set those properties at frame 1 by pressing 's'.

At frame 24, I move the ball to touch the ground. As the playback was not that smooth, I right click the timeline and under playback speed, I choose 'Play Every Frame, Max Real Time.'

At the end of this video, at frame 48, I move the ball out of the camera view. But in actual fact, I want the ball to be bouncing, not just moving up and down. The bouncing of the ball will be taught in part 7.

Reflection:
In this video, I have to be very careful because I think at the start of the animation, it is the most critical part. If the start of the animation was not done well, I will regret if I want to change any of the things now at the later part of animation.

Week 12: Part 5

In part 5, I've learnt bump mapping  and setting important stuff for the rotate tool.

In this part, I've bump mapped the ground, using a bump map image.

After bump mapping the ground, I set the bump depth to 0.2 to make the ground look nicer.

I freeze transformations for the ball.

Reflections
I do not understand the part where they change the settings for the rotate tool. It seems the same for me before and after I change the settings. Overall, I think this video is manageable.

Week 12: Part 4

In Part 4 of 13, I've learnt how to put textures on the sphere and the plane. Textures used are blinn and ramp shader for the sphere and for the plane, I used an image provided and texture it.

In this part, I used Blinn on the sphere. For this case, I need to make the sphere look like a plastic ball.

The next part, the video teaches us how to use ramp shader for the sphere. It allow us to choose my own colours for the ball like the screenshot above.

For the plane, I've use a diffuse map image for the plane. The plane is a ground for the ball to roll on.

Reflection:
This video teaches me a lot of texturing for the polygons. I like the blinn texture because it allows you to adjust to the material you want. Overall, i think this part 4 video is manageable.



Week 12: Part 3

I've learnt how to set some important camera settings to my project file and assign material, Blinn, to the sphere.


Reflection:
I think this video has taught me more about the camera settings and the assign new material part was also taught in class but I never really pay attention. (sorry D: ) So this video was like a fun experience for me!

Week 12: Part 2

This is what I learn in the video part 2:

Continuing from video part 1, I've learn how to set the settings for camera. I don't understand this part: clipframe. My grid don't get cut off from like the video, so I was hesitating whether I should follow the person in the video and change the clipframe values.

Create a polygon plane at the 200 mark.

Create a NURBS primitive sphere.

Lift the sphere up by 100.
